The son of German comic performer Ludwig Manfred Lommel, Ulli Lommel began his career in show business as a child. After appearing in several features, Lommel met Rainer Werner Fassbinder and joined his acting/production entourage. While working with Fassbinder, Lommel turned to directing as well as performing.
