About CTEQ Annotations on Film

The Melbourne Cinémathèque is a not-for-profit organisation (essentially a film society, one of Australia's longest running) run by volunteers, and is committed to the development and sustenance of Australia's (and particularly Melbourne's) film culture. It is also the curator of the Australian Cinémathèque's touring program. It is committed to screening as wide a selection of films as possible within the rubric of contextualised and thematic programming.

Notes on films screening at the Melbourne Cinémathèque (until 1984 known as the Melbourne University Film Society) have been published in numerous forms since the 1950s. The current publication – CTEQ Annotations on Film – began in 1996 as a stand-alone journal before appearing as a supplement in Metro magazine in 1997. From March 2000, CTEQ Annotations on Film has been published in Senses of Cinema, as well as being produced as a hard-copy publication for the weekly screenings. The on-line publication of CTEQ has enabled the Melbourne Cinémathèque to seek out new and original local, national and international writing on film, as well as develop a forum for the analysis of films within the program at a level not possible before its inception.
