Suja Sawafta & Emma Ben Ayoun

Suja Sawafta is a Palestinian-American writer, scholar, and critic. She is Assistant Professor and Director of Arabic Studies at the University of Miami. Her research focuses on exile/migration and eco-criticism in Modern Arabic and Franco-Arab literature of the Mediterranean and Global South. She holds a PhD in Modern Arabic Literature from the University of Oxford and an MA in Franco-Arab Studies from the University of North Carolina. She is currently at work on her first book on the Jordanian-born Saudi-Iraqi writer Abdulrahman Munif, a petroleum-economist turned novelist most famously known for his epic novel Cities of Salt. Emma Ben Ayoun is an Assistant Professor of Film and Media at the State University of New York Fashion Institute of Technology. She holds a PhD in Cinema and Media Studies from the University of Southern California and an MSt in Film Aesthetics from the University of Oxford. Her writing, on topics including disability theory, experimental documentary, animal studies, virtual reality, and contagion, has been published in Camera Obscura, Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, Visual Anthropology, and The Velvet Light Trap, among others.
